Week in the life. Day Three- Wednesday-Photos

Here we are at day four (but I am just posting day three- not bad, only a day behind!)  I am still going strong with the photo taking, and really enjoying documenting my days.

I have not even started to scrap any of these photos though.  I already bought Ali Edwards' Week in the Life kit at Designer Digitals so I am pretty sure I am going to do it entirely digital. I will post as I get that done as well.

Week In The Life. Day Two- Photos (and an iPhone trick!)

Here are a few of the photos from Tuesday....I didn't have as many photos today at all....in fact, I forgot about the project and had to remind myself several times to take the camera out! I missed a few things today as well....but that's OK!

Dinner...but was not ready in time (I used dry beans and they take HOURS!!) Mark & I went out for dinner and this white chicken chili is dinner for Wednesday night instead! ...

A couple of things about the photos above...I found out (from my then 11 year old) that you can take a screen shot of whatever is on your iPhone by pushing the home screen and the off button (on the top) at the same time! OK, maybe you already knew that and I am excited about something that is old news-but seriously?-Very COOL!  I have been taking a screen shot of the weather everyday this way.

Also, that screen shot of my sleep cycle (taken with my new-found skill...see above) is an app from the iTunes store called "Sleep Cycle". You put the phone in your bed and it senses your movements throughout the night.  Since you move differently in bed during the different sleep states (awake, asleep, deep asleep) Sleep Cycle uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movement. It determines the best time to wake you so you are not blasted out of a deep sleep.  I also love that it give you your stats for each night, plus there is a whole section about "how we sleep" and why this works. Week In The Life. Day one- Photos

It's day one of Week in the Life... well ok, it's really day THREE, and I am just getting around to posting my Monday photos now- but that's ok.  I am not stressing about the details, if I missed a shot (like I did yesterday when Mark & I went out for dinner!-Duh!) it's ok. I just continue on.  Sometimes I am going about my day and realize I have not taken any photos for a couple of hours.... and that's ok.  I take them when I remember, and don't worry about it when I don't.  It helps having my Nikon in sight all the time, and the fact that I carry my iPhone around everywhere helps too (hello Instagram!)

Here are a few of my Monday photos. They have not been edited at all, and this by no means is a full list....

I'm doing WITL (Week In The Life), are you?

Looking forward to participating in Week in the Life again this year.  This will be my second time, I did it before in 2008, and just found that scrapbook last week while unpacking boxes. (yes, I STILL have boxes to unpack from my move in July! What?). You can see more of my week here and here.

For those of you that dont know, Week in the Life is the brain child of Ali Edwards, and you can read all about it here.  All you need is a camera- you will document your life for one week. Taking photos of every day things, and keeping bits of reciepts, handwriting etc. Its very easy to do and you dont need to be a scrapbooker or photographer to do it.  It's a really cool thing to look back on, and I am looking forward to it especially since my life is so different now than it was in 2008!

I will post my progress here all next week. Should be fun!

Tales from the Shelf-Part 3. Mini album from Jessica Sprague

This is an album taken from Jessica Sprague. It is a completely digital book and was so fast and easy to do. I had it done in less than an hour! Really! I did it a few years ago and I searched Jessica's blog, but I could not find it... sorry!  But I believe it was a freebie- Nice!

It is called "snapshots" and is meant to be a quick look at your life, right now. As is.

I used an acrylic square album, added my photos and journaling to the templates, and printed it up at home. Then it was just a matter of adding a very small amount of embellishments (I wanted to keep it as simple as possible) and binding it together with rings. super easy!

I did one photo page and one "at the moment" page for each of us.

I really like these kinds of albums that document the every day. Things that will be cool to look back on in years to see where we were and what we did. I know I've said this before, but imagine if you had a book like this from when you were a kid. How cool would that be?

 

 

 

Mini Albums. Tales from the Shelf-Part 2. Advice For my Kids.

 
Part 2 of "Tales from the Shelf". My favorite mini album. This originally was going to be an album about what advice I would give myself as a child. It turned into a little book of wisdom from me to my kids.

Making this book sparked a lot of meaningful conversations with both kids. I bring it out every once in a while and we sit and read it over together.

I promised I would get my mini books photographed and I will work on posting those over the next little while. As you can see from this shot, I have a few. I also have a large bowl that I keep my really small books but I still have to photograph that.

I love having the books out and displayed- inviting people to look through them. My kids often plop down on the chars and flip through an album. I also have my large albums on the shelves, but they mostly prefer to look at the smaller ones.

This is an album I did for our crusie we went on a few years ago. I used a kit from Lisa Bearnson back when she did a "kit of the month".

There are pockets and envelopes to put extra stuff in. I kept our itenerary, info about the ship, and our ship credit cards in there.

Hard to see in this picture below, but the page on the right has a cut out square in the top right corner. A photo from the next page peeks through when the page lies flat.

Pages are all different sizes as well, which adds interest.

Another envelope. I added a small adheasive magnet to keep it closed.

This whole page is an envelope. I used it for the last page in the album.

That's one book from the shelf... a whole bunch more to come!

 

FDF- Free vintage pattern papers. Perfect for collage, or shabby journals

Hello again, Welcome to my weekly series "Free Download Friday (FDF)".  Today I have another vintage pattern for you. And-since it's such a beautiful day, and since I accomplished so much off my to do list yesterday- how about 2 pages?

Print it up and add to your Shabby journal,(or your remains of the day journal) or use it digitally in scrapbook projects. This would also be perfect for altered art and collage.

More FREE vintage papers, and the launch of FDF (FREE DOWNLOAD FRIDAY)

I thought I would start a regular post every week called "FREE DOWNLOAD FRIDAY". Every Friday I will share a fun download for you to use for your personal use. Sometimes it will be vintage (my favorite!) and sometimes it will be... something else!

This week I have some vintage images from kids' sewing patterns. I believe this is a catalog of sorts, but hard to know for sure because it is not in English...I believe it's in German, but I could be wrong. Images are from 1964. Enjoy!

Free Vintage collage sheet

Happy Friday!

Here is a free download of a digital sheet I collaged. I used old book pages, old sewing patterns, vintage maps, and other interesting paper i had in my stash. I plan on using this in a piece of art I am working on. This would be perfect if you are working on a Remains of the Day journal, scrapbooking, collage, and altered art. Print it out or use it digitally. Have fun!
